FELDENKRAIS DENMARK

Feldenkrais is a teaching method that combines movement and consciousness to affect positive change in body and mind
More and more Danes are suffering from pain in their daily lives. According to the latest report from the Danish Ministry of Health, 32% of Danes report that they experience pain on a regular basis with 31% experiencing symptoms of stress and 14% experiencing severe sleep problems – and this tendency is only increasing.
Feldenkrais is a method developed for the purpose of changing the ways in which we move, so that we become more conscious of the connection between body and mind. It is a form of body therapy that eases one’s everyday life and develops one’s creative potential. Feldenkrais is both a teaching method, a continuous process, and a system that gives practitioners the necessary tools to achieve a body in balance.
I think Feldenkrais gives me a new experience of being in my body that makes me feel much freer. I can do so much more – including things I didn’t know I could do with my body. It’s as though it just takes away all barriers so that I can discover my body anew.

Functional Integration
Individual

In Feldenkrais, individual sessions are known as Functional Integration. In these sessions, the Feldenkrais teacher guides the client through a series of positions and movements using dialogue and gentle touch to uncover adverse movement patterns and habits. Throughout the treatment, the teacher will suggest alternative or expanded movement patterns that might be more comfortable, effective or efficient for the client. The sessions are highly flexible in their approach and are tailored to the unique circumstances and wishes of the client.
Awareness Through Movement
Group

Awareness Through Movement is the name of the Feldenkrais Method’s group lessons. In these sessions, the teacher guides the participants through a series of exercises that are designed to increase their awareness of the connection between body and mind. Throughout the exercises, the participants will discover new, easier and more balanced ways of movement that may help to alleviate stress and increase strength, flexibility and wellbeing. Exercises are usually done with participants lying down, sitting or standing and can be performed comfortably by everyone.
It has really been beneficial for a stiff man like me, as most men who have played soccer are. Now I’m working on becoming more flexible so that I can age gracefully. That’s what it’s all about – you can’t escape aging, but you can age gracefully!

The history behind the Feldenkrais Method
The Feldenkrais Method was developed by Moshé Feldenkrais (1904-1984) after the second World War. During his life, Feldenkrais worked with all sorts of people – from infants with cerebral palsy to professional dancers and musicians, athletes and heads of state. Additionally, he contributed to various fields of research including anthropology, neuroscience, psychology and psychophysiology.
